Taipei, 21 November 2019. UMLA delegated a nursing lecturer “Nur Hidayati, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep.” to learn about hyperthermia therapy at Wan Fang Hospital, Taipe, Taiwan. This activity was a series of hospital tour activities of the Advanced Nursing Professional Training Program organized by Taipei Medical University, College of Nursing.
Wan Fang Hospital is affiliated with TMU hospital that is managed by the same management, even though its status is a public hospital. One of the best programs at Wan Fang Hospital is hyperthermia center therapy in cancer patients. This therapy is performed 1-2 hours before or after chemotherapy of the stomach cancer patient/GI/cervix cancer (cancer in the stomach area). The duration of therapy is around 1-2 hours with the target of the temperature 42-26oC. Hyperthermia therapy is carried out twice a week continuously with chemotherapy (on the same day). The cost of hyperthermia therapy is 30,000 NTD or equivalent to 15 million Rupiahs and is not covered by health insurance.
To maximize the understanding about the procedure, Nur Hidayati (called “Daya) participate to be a volunteer in the hyperthermia therapy machines experiment (without turning on the temperature setting) to learn how the process of performing this therapy directly. The workers in the Hyperthermia Therapy section were very friendly and shared their knowledge with nursing lecturers from Indonesia who wanted to learn more about it.
