UMLA–Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Discuss Strategic Collaboration: Advancing Islamic Economics Curriculum and COIL Initiatives Universitas Muhammadiyah Lamongan (UMLA), through its International Office (KUI), continues to strengthen its commitment to higher education internationalization. On Wednesday (25/09/2025), UMLA held a virtual meeting with the Islamic Business School of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) via Zoom. ![](https://iac.umla.ac.id/storage/5yzE3tpcBTEKcSExkvcHs1qqAllk3nzLzfsJXRlW.jpg) The meeting focused on strategic international collaboration plans, including curriculum benchmarking aligned with AACSB standards and the development of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) programs. One proposed initiative is a joint virtual class between UMLA’s Islamic Economics program and a selected course from UUM. The session was attended by UMLA’s Vice Rector I, Dr. Arifal Aris; Head of International Office, Dias Tiara Putri Utomo, M.Pd; Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Suyitno, M.M; Head of Islamic Economics Program, Elvina Assadam; and Deputy Head of Program, Faricha Maf’ula. Representatives from UUM’s Islamic Business School also joined and expressed strong interest in the collaboration. In her remarks, Dias Tiara Putri Utomo emphasized that benchmarking with institutions accredited by AACSB is a vital step in enhancing academic quality and global competitiveness. “This collaboration not only opens pathways for curriculum alignment but also empowers students with international learning experiences,” said Dias. UUM responded enthusiastically to the COIL proposal, highlighting its potential to foster cross-border academic exchange and enrich students’ understanding of contemporary Islamic economics. Cirebon, August 20, 2025 — Universitas Muhammadiyah Cirebon (UM Cirebon) proudly hosted the International Office Forum 2025, a national-level gathering of Heads and Representatives from International Offices (KUI) across Indonesia. Held from August 18–20, the event was organized by UM Cirebon’s International Office in collaboration with the Association of International Offices (ASKUI) of Muhammadiyah–‘Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions (PTMA). The forum featured distinguished speakers from four six global universities within three countries - Malaysia, Thailand, and Russia—who shared insights on international collaboration opportunities such as guest lectures, matching grants, student mobility programs, and visiting professorships. These sessions offered practical strategies for expanding global engagement among Indonesian universities. A highlight of the event was the signing of a Letter of Intent between Universitas Muhammadiyah Lamongan (UMLa) and Southeast Bangkok University (SBU), Thailand. SBU is renowned for its excellence in Accounting, Management, Entrepreneurship, and Digital Marketing—fields that align closely with UMLa’s academic programs. > “This kind of event is incredibly valuable for building UMLa’s relationships with international universities and opening doors for collaboration across various disciplines,” said Dias Tiara Putri Utomo, as UMLa's representative. The International Office Forum 2025 marked a significant step toward enhancing the internationalization of higher education in Indonesia. By fostering dialogue and partnership, the forum reaffirmed the commitment of PTMA institutions to global academic cooperation and innovation.

The opening of the 5th International Summer Course Umla 2025 was a lively event. From the Saman Dance to Tapak Suci, this event became a cultural gathering and reaffirmed UMLA's role in a sustainable global network. — The melodious sound of angklung echoed in the Budi Utomo Auditorium, Muhammadiyah University Lamongan (Umla) Campus, on Monday morning (7/21/25). These distinctive Indonesian melodies marked the beginning of the 5th International Summer Course Umla 2025, an academic forum themed “Inclusive and Sustainable Local Economic Development Strategy in the Digital Era,” which embodied the spirit of global collaboration and local wisdom. The opening of this offline event was warmly welcomed by participants from eight countries. The multicultural atmosphere was evident from the start of the event, beginning with a stunning performance of the Saman Dance. This traditional dance from Aceh captivated the guests and created an atmosphere of togetherness that became the spirit of this international event. The opening remarks were delivered by the organizing committee, who introduced the participants and greeted the guests, both in person and online. The recitation of verses from the Holy Qur'an added to the solemnity of the atmosphere, before moving on to the formal remarks from the university leadership. She also emphasized that this summer course has become an annual tradition at Umla. “The summer course has been held for 5 years, with the 2021 edition taking place online. The 2022-2024 editions will be held in a hybrid format, and this year's edition will be held entirely offline,” she said. The Rector of Umla, Prof. Dr. Abdul Aziz Alimul Hidayat, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes., in his speech said that the International Summer Course is a tangible manifestation of Umla's commitment to strengthening international networks while supporting local economic development. He also appreciated the involvement of all participants from various countries and the full support of the Umla academic community. As an official symbol of the start of the event, Abdul Aziz Alimul Hidayat, together with the vice rector, the dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, and the Head of the International Affairs Office (KUI), simultaneously played the angklung. The harmonious sound seemed to be a beautiful metaphor: that cross-border collaboration can run harmoniously like the notes in a melody. After the opening ceremony, a group photo session was held between university leaders, invited guests, and participants. This moment was captured as a symbol of international friendship and collaborative spirit in the framework of global education. The atmosphere then became lively again with a performance of Tapak Suci martial arts, which showcased the strength and discipline characteristic of Muhammadiyah. Applause echoed as the young warriors performed agile and decisive moves. The highlight of the event was the Cultural Parade, featuring representatives from eight countries wearing traditional clothing and showcasing their respective arts and cultural symbols. The colorful costumes and expressions of joy demonstrated the rich diversity united in a spirit of togetherness. Over the next few days, participants will attend academic sessions, interdisciplinary discussions, and field trips highlighting the local potential of Lamongan Regency within the framework of sustainable development. The speakers come from various countries with backgrounds in economics, social sciences, and technology. This opening is not merely a ceremony. It serves as an affirmation that Muhammadiyah University of Lamongan is ready to take its place on the global stage, without abandoning the cultural roots and local values that form its strength.

Muhammadiyah University of Lamongan (UMLA) officially opened the 2025 International Summer Course on Monday (July 21, 2025) at the Budi Utomo Hall at UMLA. This event was a special occasion because it was the first time the program was held completely offline since its inception. Welcome remarks from the Chairperson of the Committee, Nur Hidayati, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., reported that 18 international participants participated in this year's program. In her remarks, she stated that the International Summer Course was first held online in 2021, then continued as a hybrid program from 2022 to 2024. "2025 marks an important milestone for UMLA because this is the first time this activity has been held offline. This demonstrates our commitment to providing a first-hand experience of Indonesian culture to international participants," she said. The program is designed to provide both academic and cultural experiences, bringing together participants from various countries to learn from each other and share insights. In addition to classroom activities, participants will also be introduced to Lamongan's local culture, Islamic values, and various social activities. The International Summer Course is one of UMLA's flagship programs, supporting the campus's internationalization and expanding its global network. The 2025 International Summer Course is expected to serve as a bridge to strengthen international collaboration and introduce Islamic values ​​and local culture to the global community.
